#67 - "Action Trumps Everything"

"Action Trumps Everything"

Sometimes I read a book and seem to forget it the moment after I have finished. With others, the message can stick for years into the future.

Several years ago, I read a book titled Action Trumps Everything: Creating What You Want in an Uncertain World by Charles F Kiefer. That title and the message “Action Trumps Everything” has stuck with me over the years.

Recently I listened to a Dad Tired podcast about a youth pastor that now goes undercover to rescue individuals from sex trafficking. When asked how he went from a youth pastor to his current occupation, his response was essentially 1000 small steps.

When you are pursuing a goal (aligning your finances with your values, improving world hunger, saving girls in sex trafficking, etc.) it can seem overwhelming to the point where it creates inaction.

Try just taking the next step. When you have taken that step, evaluate. Should I keep going? If so, what is the next step? Then take that step.

1000 small steps will either get you to your end goal or let you know that it isn’t a goal to pursue. The right heart and intention matter, but without action, you will find yourself at the same point 10 years from now as you are today.

Whether it is a personal financial improvement, a relationship that needs to be reconciled, or a world injustice that needs to be changed. Just take the next step.

- I originally saw this article on Kitces.com. Howard discusses a couple of ways you can teach your kids about investing.

Thank you for reading! What should you take action on today?
